A Starry Night that You Can See Flow and Shift

I’m a long time fan of Van Gogh. He’s one of the most incredible artists in the history of humanity, crafting and turning his madness and pain and shift it into something new and shining.

His work has been globally adored, but none quite like Starry Night. The sky he paints is majestic, and has been reinterpreted almost as many times. But this might be one of the most moving versions of it I’ve ever seen – done in the style of ebru.

To quote Christopher Jobson of This Is Colossal, marbling “involves the careful process of floating colors on the surface of water or a slightly more viscous solution called size, before transferring the design or pattern to a special sheet of paper in a dramatic flourish.”

Artist Garip Ay creates an interpretation of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’, using this unique technique.

And all at once, the starry night that you’ve no doubt seen countless times over the course of your life becomes strangely and beautifully alive.
