The Contemporary Korean Artist in Residence

Korean-born artist Young-Il Ahn came from his homeland to Los Angeles in the nineteen sixties, just as the monochrome dansaekhwa art style come into play. And as such, his style became something completely unique.

Most of the other artists from this time were influenced heavily by the Japanese styles of the time. But since Ahn came to the United States instead, opening his eyes to a completely different style of art.

His abstract style found new ways to understand and decipher landscapes, birds, and even the physical poetry of musicians.

Perhaps his most impressive collection is the Water series, which saw his personal collections becoming incredibly popular in both Asia and the United States.

The style has been coming back into vogue lately, and it’s given us all a chance to reexamine this beautiful style.

And now, his art is going on display with the LACMA, and you need to make sure that you can see them before the show leaves the gallery.
