An L.A. art star turns 50: Gemini G.E.L. celebrates with a LACMA exhibition

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will honor a local star’s anniversary on September 11 by hosting an exhibition of his works of almost a half-century. Gemini G.E.L’s printing studio, from the beginning, pushed the limits of conventional art and gave artists involved a sense that “they were part of something.”

Key Takeaways:

  • Gemini G.E.L. is an old-fashioned printing studio, where A master printer works alongside two apprentices.
  • Many famous artists have produced pieces at this studio.
  • Gemini G.E.L. was founded in 1965 and continues as a family affair.

“Gemini re-imagined the possibilities of printmaking. They pushed it into a new scale, working big, a new level of complexity, incorporating new materials.”
