In Abdi Haque’s article relating to technology and the world around us he speaks of one of his experiences where he was visiting a museum and he expected the usual of photographs and paintings. But in this particular visit he felt something different when he entered the Damascus room and felt a peace in the breathtaking views that were found in the buildings’ architecture. In addition, he spoke about reminiscing to visiting similar buildings while in India and remembering the various activities that partook there.
Key Takeaways:
- nestled away as a permanent display
- the threshold, ataba, has a fountain
- the room serves as a reminder of the current state of Syria
“While famous works of art in traditional media are fairly standard inclusions at most museums across the world, finding an entire room is a bit of a novelty. Museums seldom showcase interiors, an art form in their own right, and finding one as old and complete as the The Met’s qa’a (commonly referred to as the Damascus Room) is rare.”
