Cornelia Funke and the Stories from the Buddhist Caves

Award winning children’s fantasy author Cornelia Funke has been working with the Getty for years now. She’s been creating stories from the history on display, all of it great.

Cornelia recently unveiled her latest work with the museum. She is basing it on the Dunhuang Caves and the Buddhist art within.

And she spoke about the inspiration it gave her with Rebecca Peabody, sharing the influence it has on her story.

“The story about the Dunhuang caves is interesting because so much comes from beyond the Getty. The artists, the caves, the artifacts —maybe even the ghosts.”
